Finding a Good Church is like Finding a Good Chinese Buffet…
If you know me then you know I love to eat! I excersise just so I can eat more! I don’t really want to lose weight, I just don’t want to gain anymore. Today I finally found a good chinese buffet in town. I have lived here for over 2 1/2 years and this is only the 2nd one I have found!
If you go to Chinese buffets then you know they are all pretty much the same, so why is it hard to find a ‘good’ one? For me it is how clean the place is! The food is the same but if the tables are dirty, the floor is sticky, and the bathrooms look as though a dog barfed in there 2 years ago then I don’t want to come back.
I feel that so many people feel that way about finding a ‘good’ church. Most churches offer the same menu, but some just get the ‘little’ things right that make the BIG difference. They understand how to take care of what God has blessed them with. They understand how to make people feel welcomed like you would to someone coming into your house and not your used car lot. And they understand how to build relationships within the church body.
It isn’t costly to do these things in a monetary sense, but it is costly in the fact that people other than the few pastors on staff have to make time to ‘build bridges’ with those God sends into our church. That is what will get that person to come back week after week to enjoy what is offered.
To close, think about the last time you went into a church you had never been to before. Do you remember how you felt? The insecurity, the nervousness, the awkwardness of not knowing anyone? Let’s not let anyone who comes into any church feel those feelings longer than they need to! Let’s clean up our business and do the ‘little’ things that will make their experience enjoyable as they worship with us!
